EVENT | Food Sisterhood at The Ex - Toronto's annual event for the whole family #CNE2014

It's that time of the year again - time to go to The Ex (Canadian National Exhibition)! This festive annual event that takes place by Toronto's waterfront welcomes Torontonians and tourists of all ages with music, games, entertainment, rides, food, marketplace for local vendors as well as a casino. Check out the photos from Monica's visit earlier last week. Of course the first thing we do is check out the food building! Coco's Fried Chicken's Cocoa-Fried Chicken Bacon Nation's Deep-Fried Bacon-Wrapped Hot Dog on a Stick / Funnel Cake Fran's Thanksgiving Waffle - this was disappointing! It's not a complete night without some light gambling! The CNE is running until September 1st, 2014! Take your friend, lover, family, etc. for an afternoon or a night at The Ex - a great way to end the summer.

REVIEW | Touhenboku Ramen's new location at Yonge & Eglinton

It's not too long ago that Japanese Ramen became all the rave in Toronto's food scene and ramen specialty restaurants were popping up within the city. Last winter, we got a taste of Touhenboku Ramen on Queen St that differentiated themselves by offering chicken broth ( read review ). We had a great experience there with their various offerings and when the news came that a second location was opening at Yonge & Eglinton, I was more than excited to try it! The second location features their regular ramen menu (including rice appetizers & dessert) but what makes this location special is that they also feature an Izakaya Menu for dinner. For my visit at lunch on a weekday, I stuck to the regular menu: Korokke ($5.50) - crispy potato & cream cakes rolled in panko Gyoza ($5.50) - fried pork dumpling with dipping sauce Kara-age Don ($4.50) - fried chicken pieces served on a bed of steaming hot rice with housemade sauce & scallions  ...

EVENT | Pizza & Gelato Party at G for Gelato in the St. Lawrence Market neighbourhood - what a blast!

We've always been told not to judge by a book by its cover and we shouldn't judge a restaurant by its name either. G for Gelato - gelato and espresso bar definitely offers more than just that! G for Gelato offers an impressive selection of paninis, pizza, salads, gelatos, drinks and even breakfast on their menu. What makes your entire experience here even better is the impeccable service you get. Whether you're trying to decide what type of pizza to order or curious to try all their gelato flavours, the staff is always ready to lend a helping hand. As we all know, overall atmosphere of a restaurant is just as important as the food and G for Gelato definitely sets the bar high. If you happen to see owner Shant out and about in the restaurant, stop for a chat and find out why his love for food has inspired him to open G for Gelato. Everyone loves a good slice of pizza every now and then - we sure can't get enough. Whether you opt for a simpler pizza such as cheese or ...

OPENING | Montreal's popular PoutineVille opens in Toronto's Annex neighbourhood

The arrival of Poutineville to the Annex means that we can finally have all you can eat poutine and a heart attack - just kidding! We don't mean a real heart attack but Poutineville's infamous 15 lb. poutine called 'The Heart Attack." Co-owners   Kosta Kariotakis and Camillo Fresco's vision of selling the best poutines which originated in Montreal has quickly grown to locations in Quebec City and Toronto as well.  What makes this poutine joint stand out from the rest is definitely the variety on the menu, an option to customize your very own poutine, all you can eat poutine and the largest poutine you'll find in Toronto!  Our evening began with delicious drinks made by Mixologist Nishan Nepulangoda . If you don't think poutine and cocktails mix, think again because upscale interior doesn't make you think you're in a poutine restaurant at all! Their Toronto location has a full service-bar, lounge area, banquettes and even a cozy patio ensuring y...

OPENING | Much anticipated DaiLo (not GwaiLo) opens on College & Bathurst with #sickasianfood

Ever since my first bite of the Big Mac Bao I had at YumChaTO earlier this year, I was intrigued by Chef Nick Liu's way of cooking "New Asian Cuisine." With a bunch of pop-ups and participation in various events in the Toronto food scene, Nick Liu is well know to many foodies. When it was announced that he will finally have a basecamp, a kitchen to call his own, we were eagerly awaiting the opening. DaiLo is located on College St., a block West of Bathurst St.    Photo Credit: Mauricio Calero, MJCPHOTOGRAPHY  The restaurant is divided into 2 separate areas: DaiLo - the bar and dining room on the ground floor and LoPan, a more casual cocktail & snack bar upstairs (also with a separate entrance).  The decor in both area is authentic, elegant and welcoming with Chinese influences. LoPan showcases floating dumpling or fortune cooking shaped creating a fun and playful ambiance, true to what the upstairs bar is to its restaurant counterpart downstairs.   We star...
