EVENT | Impressive cocktails & tasty nibbles to #PayPalIt at the Beverley Hotel's rooftop patio

What goes well with sunny weather and a group of friends? If you guessed patio, you're thinking what we're thinking. Last week, we went on a mini 'patio-hopping' on Queen St. with a group of bloggers and started our night at Fonda Lola. Our second stop was the modern & chic Queen West neighbourhood gem, The Beverley Hotel's rooftop patio - one with a gorgeous view!

This boutique hotel is inspired by the creative spirit of the original Queen West neighbourhood.  The hotel's love for arts, music and the sense of being part of the community is also evident in their food & drink. Chef Eric Wood uses community sourced ingredients for his culinary creations and carefully thought-out & handcrafted cocktails are pieces of art themselves.

I, for one, immediately fell in love with the rooftop patio.  There are two sections, a more cozy & intimate area by the bar and a smaller section facing North (where we were).

As we sipped on cocktails made by Manager, Aja Sax, we were also spoiled with delicious hors d'oeuvres to keep our bellies full!

Pork Cheek with celery root puree, scallion ginger glaze & pickled apple

Tuna Tiradito with radish slaw & leche de tigre

Foie Gras au Torchon on crostini with smoked grape & walnut

Vanilla Poached Tomato with goat cheese mousse & avocado

Pear & Manchego Salad on flatbread

As the food kept flowing out of the kitchen, Aja was kind enough to give us an impromptu cocktail class 101! We made one of Beverley Hotel's most popular drink, the Old Fashioned.

Ta-da!

After this patio discovery, it won't be long until we will be going back for more. It's not just the beautiful view they have, it's the combination of their classy yet cool ambiance (it's not snobbish), refreshing cocktails, delicious food and of course, the convenient location on Queen St.

Special thanks to PayPal Canada for taking us on a patio hopping tour in fancy suburbans and Beverley Hotel for their hospitality.

RECIPE | Alokozay Tea - Cinnamon tea infused panna cotta

Matcha tea has been a long time favourite when making any type of dessert and now more recently, it's expanded to other teas such as Chai or Early Grey. We decided to try making a panna cotta using cinnamon tea from  Alokozay Tea.    If you're looking to buy it in a store, try the international food section in Metro, Bulk Barn, Food Basics, or Adonis. If all else fails, do what we did and order it directly from their website. The website is extremely easy to navigate and you can get free shipping if you spend $39 or more.  Customer service was amazing and replied to my emails within the same day! Click here to buy the tea online.  Panna Cotta is a pretty straight forward dessert to make but it never fails to impress at dinner parties where you can serve them in individual ramekins. Ingredients - 2 Alokozay cinnamon tea bags - 3/4 cup half and half cream -1/2 cup 2% milk - 2 tbsp sugar - 1 tsp gelatin -fruits of your choice  Method: 1. Mix the gelatin with ...

REVIEW | Patois - Get a little taste of everything on the menu with The Whole Shebang!

I'm down to try any restaurant that allows you to order the entire menu and Patois' Jamaican Chinese fusion menu definitely sealed the deal. It's certainly nice to have a restaurant that's open on a Monday and takes reservation in the Dundas St. West neighbourhood. Being able to make reservations makes life a whole lot easier even though the restaurant wasn't packed on a Monday night at 6 pm. Their reservation system even emails you to remind you of your upcoming reservation but we had no problems remembering as Patois has been on our hit list for quite some time now.  There is an assortment of drinks and cocktails to choose from but I went with the classic Ting to bring me back to the feeling of being away on an island somewhere much hotter than Toronto. As advertised, you can order "The Whole Shebang" for $99.99, which includes the entire menu (half orders of the O.G Fried Chicken and Juicy Jerk Chicken)! I would definitely recommend getting The Whole...

REVIEW | Light Cafe

We find Baldwin Village to be a street in Toronto that is ever growing. You'll never know what to expect in terms of businesses that will pop up! Not to mention it's diverse food culture including gelato, ramen, Italian, Filipino food and so much more. It doesn't surprise us at all that Light Cafe decided to take residence on Baldwin.  I have traveled quite extensively through Asia and can say with confidence that Light Cafe looks exactly like a cafe you would find in Taiwan. Not only is it spacious inside, I love the minimalist decor inside which provides a calming atmosphere. I could see myself sitting at the cafe for hours (within reason haha) and getting some work done.  The first thing that we noticed and I'm sure many of you will as well - is the living wall. I don't think I've ever been to a restaurant where there was a living wall but I've always wanted one of my own. With the natural sunlight coming in with the wall, it's the perfect place to f...
