REVIEW | Pai Northern Thai Kitchen - Chef Nuit's newest restaurant in Toronto

Pai Northern Thai Kitchen, which just opened on May 30 of this year, is already being called Toronto's best Thai food by many.  Pai's kitchen is led by Chef Nuit Regular, well known to the food scene for the two popular sukothai locations, and formerly Khao San Road.

My visit was on a Monday night and it was impossible to make reservations as we couldn't get through to the booking line.  My advice? Make reservations way ahead of time, or expect to wait a bit during the peak lunch and dinner hours.  We got the just around 6PM and were lucky to have waited only 10-15 minutes before being seated. The host and servers are all friendly and make you feel welcomed immediately.

The space is pretty large with the main dining room area, waiting area by the bar and a private dining room for groups.  All the furniture creates a rustic & market place feel with wood furniture, school chairs and colourful decor.

Thai Iced Tea - served on a mount of crushed ice, this was delicious.

Pad Thai with Shrimp ($15.00) - Stir fried rice noodle in a homemade tamarind sauce with bean sprouts, tofu, egg & chives. This is the best Pad Thai I've had in Toronto! Highly recommended.

Khao Pad Thamada Beef ($15.00) - stirfried jasmine rice with egg, green onion & oyster sauce.
I've never had this dish before and when it came out, I thought that it looked very plain and simple. The beef was seasoned deliciously and went really well with the egg and jasmine rice.

Khao Soi ($14.00) - fresh egg noodles in a golden curry topped with crispy noodles, coriander, green onions and chicken. This bowl of Khao Soi was very aromatic and had a lot of depth to the curry compared to the Khao Soi at other Thai restaurants. We ordered an extra bowl of rice to literally lick this bowl clean!

My friends and I shared three main entree dishes and left full and extremely satisfied. I really can't pick which dish was my favourite because reliving that night, they were all perfect to their own. Each dish had ingredients that created a harmony amongst their flavours and textures. I'm definitely not waiting to go back to Pai for Thai food! PS. Did I mention that they have a small but quaint patio in the front?

RECIPE | Alokozay Tea - Cinnamon tea infused panna cotta

Matcha tea has been a long time favourite when making any type of dessert and now more recently, it's expanded to other teas such as Chai or Early Grey. We decided to try making a panna cotta using cinnamon tea from  Alokozay Tea.    If you're looking to buy it in a store, try the international food section in Metro, Bulk Barn, Food Basics, or Adonis. If all else fails, do what we did and order it directly from their website. The website is extremely easy to navigate and you can get free shipping if you spend $39 or more.  Customer service was amazing and replied to my emails within the same day! Click here to buy the tea online.  Panna Cotta is a pretty straight forward dessert to make but it never fails to impress at dinner parties where you can serve them in individual ramekins. Ingredients - 2 Alokozay cinnamon tea bags - 3/4 cup half and half cream -1/2 cup 2% milk - 2 tbsp sugar - 1 tsp gelatin -fruits of your choice  Method: 1. Mix the gelatin with ...

REVIEW | Patois - Get a little taste of everything on the menu with The Whole Shebang!

I'm down to try any restaurant that allows you to order the entire menu and Patois' Jamaican Chinese fusion menu definitely sealed the deal. It's certainly nice to have a restaurant that's open on a Monday and takes reservation in the Dundas St. West neighbourhood. Being able to make reservations makes life a whole lot easier even though the restaurant wasn't packed on a Monday night at 6 pm. Their reservation system even emails you to remind you of your upcoming reservation but we had no problems remembering as Patois has been on our hit list for quite some time now.  There is an assortment of drinks and cocktails to choose from but I went with the classic Ting to bring me back to the feeling of being away on an island somewhere much hotter than Toronto. As advertised, you can order "The Whole Shebang" for $99.99, which includes the entire menu (half orders of the O.G Fried Chicken and Juicy Jerk Chicken)! I would definitely recommend getting The Whole...

REVIEW | Light Cafe

We find Baldwin Village to be a street in Toronto that is ever growing. You'll never know what to expect in terms of businesses that will pop up! Not to mention it's diverse food culture including gelato, ramen, Italian, Filipino food and so much more. It doesn't surprise us at all that Light Cafe decided to take residence on Baldwin.  I have traveled quite extensively through Asia and can say with confidence that Light Cafe looks exactly like a cafe you would find in Taiwan. Not only is it spacious inside, I love the minimalist decor inside which provides a calming atmosphere. I could see myself sitting at the cafe for hours (within reason haha) and getting some work done.  The first thing that we noticed and I'm sure many of you will as well - is the living wall. I don't think I've ever been to a restaurant where there was a living wall but I've always wanted one of my own. With the natural sunlight coming in with the wall, it's the perfect place to f...
