WORKSHOP | Delicious Nutrition - Winter Cleanses have never tasted so good!

It's that time of year again! Time to make promises to ourselves to eat healthy and cut out junk food. We've all been there and done that but seriously, with all the good food that Toronto has to offer, how many of us were able to stay on track? I think one of the hardest parts to sticking with a clean diet is that you don't know where to start. We also have the mentality that eating clean is boring. Thankfully with a Winter Cleanse program offered by Delicious Nutrition, eating clean has never tasted so delicious!

Chef Carolyn Cohen and nutritionist Krissy Smith founded Delicious Nutrition and created a series of programs for people who want to eat healthy without sacrificing taste. After all, if we can all eat healthier foods that are tasty, why not? Not to mention that these ladies are foodies like us, they love yummy food!

The best part about being on a cleanse is that you know EXACTLY what's going in your body and it's really about making a lifestyle change that will make you feel better.

A two-week cleanse program will help your body go through a cleanse with a whole food based plan while incorporating creative dishes to keep your palettes engaged! The second week includes a gradual reintroduction of various food and helps you make a permanent lifestyle change to balance what we're putting in our bodies. For example, if you stop having so much sugar for a week and had a macaron on the second week, your tastebud will realize how sweet it is and that you really don't need more than one for that sugar craving you get.

The program includes two professionally-run classes, cooking demonstrations, nutritional information, support, full menus, shopping lists, and tastings that comes to around $350. While that may sound a little steep at first, this could be the start of a permanent lifestyle change to improve our bodies. At the end of the day, what could be more important than what we are putting into our bodies? You are what you eat!

Not sure what you'll be eating on the cleanse?

Here's a sneak peek at some of the recipes that are included:
- Turkey and sweet potato meat balls
- Quinoa temaki hand-rolls
- Chocolate cherry power truffles
and so much more...!

All the recipes sound delicious but if you're more of a visual person, check out the foods we tried at the classes!

Sweet potato and turkey kefta

Chicken chilli

Muffin Tin Frittatta

Toasted coconut and kale chips

Pea soup and spiced chick peas

What we really like about the cleanse program offered by Delicious Nutrition is that it's not one of those juice cleanses, where all you intake for a specific number of days are veggie/fruit juices. The thing about 'juicing' is that it doesn't provide enough support for your organs to function properly. With this cleanse, you're eliminating certain foods or controlling the amount of those foods so you and your body is much more aware of what works and what doesn't.

    REVIEW | Light Cafe

We find Baldwin Village to be a street in Toronto that is ever growing. You'll never know what to expect in terms of businesses that will pop up! Not to mention it's diverse food culture including gelato, ramen, Italian, Filipino food and so much more. It doesn't surprise us at all that Light Cafe decided to take residence on Baldwin.  I have traveled quite extensively through Asia and can say with confidence that Light Cafe looks exactly like a cafe you would find in Taiwan. Not only is it spacious inside, I love the minimalist decor inside which provides a calming atmosphere. I could see myself sitting at the cafe for hours (within reason haha) and getting some work done.  The first thing that we noticed and I'm sure many of you will as well - is the living wall. I don't think I've ever been to a restaurant where there was a living wall but I've always wanted one of my own. With the natural sunlight coming in with the wall, it's the perfect place to f...

WORKSHOP | Sausage Making Class at The Healthy Butcher on Eglinton!

Recently named 'Best Butcher in Toronto' by Now Magazine, the Healthy Butcher   just may become your go-to butcher shop for organically & locally-sourced meats as well as sustainable seafood!  It's no surprise that The Healthy Butcher caters to those that 'live to eat' as they're passionate about food themselves. In fact, they're so serious, that they offer educational and fun workshops on roasting, knife skills, butchering and lots more... The hands-on workshops and classes are held on weekday evenings and range from $40 to $125 per person depending on the class.  With an intimate group, you'll be sure to learn a new set of skills at these 2.5 hr classes at The Healthy Butcher in the company of other food lovers.  When I first heard about their workshops, I thought it would be a perfect team-building exercise for co-workers but it would be great to take friends or family as it's a great time overall. RECIPE | Alokozay Tea - Cinnamon tea infused panna cotta

Matcha tea has been a long time favourite when making any type of dessert and now more recently, it's expanded to other teas such as Chai or Early Grey. We decided to try making a panna cotta using cinnamon tea from  Alokozay Tea.    If you're looking to buy it in a store, try the international food section in Metro, Bulk Barn, Food Basics, or Adonis. If all else fails, do what we did and order it directly from their website. The website is extremely easy to navigate and you can get free shipping if you spend $39 or more.  Customer service was amazing and replied to my emails within the same day! Click here to buy the tea online.  Panna Cotta is a pretty straight forward dessert to make but it never fails to impress at dinner parties where you can serve them in individual ramekins. Ingredients - 2 Alokozay cinnamon tea bags - 3/4 cup half and half cream -1/2 cup 2% milk - 2 tbsp sugar - 1 tsp gelatin -fruits of your choice  Method: 1. Mix the gelatin with ...
