DINNER IDEAS | Date night with friends

Some nights in our new home call for extravagant dinners that take a few hours to prep and clean while some nights call for easy prep meals that feel like fancy dinners. Those are the nights when we would rather stay in and watch one or two movies on Netfliix. Thankfully Old El Paso  (OEP) has us covered for the easy prep nights with all their taco kits. The Old El Paso kits make it super easy for us to host friends in our new home without making a huge mess that no one really wants to clean after. As much as I love cooking, the clean up is definitely the worst part of prepping a meal. Having your guests eat their meal in an edible bowl - like the new Old El Paso Tortilla Bowls - sounds like a pretty amazing idea to me.  We love sticking to our favourites, the shrimp and beef tacos with the works but we decided to change it up this time and try the Tortilla Bowl. What we loved about the OEP Tortilla Bowl was how easy it was to use and eat. We all know tacos can get a little m...

DINNER IDEAS | Shrimp & Steak Fajitas with Old El Paso

Last Friday, I had my sister over for a girls night in. Basically, the perfect excuse to eat copious amounts of food and binge watch chick flicks. We had the movies down, but deciding on what to cook for ourselves was a challenge. I had an Old El Paso  kit in the pantry, so we agreed on a #TacoNight!  Tacos, fajitas and nachos are one of my favourite things to eat when dining out. However, they're also awesome, simple dishes to create at home when having guests over for dinner.  All you need to do is prep and cook the ingredients - like veggies and steak, and combine with an Old El Paso fajita kit! What we prepared for our girls night in fajitas: Steak with mushrooms  Shrimp, using the   Old El Paso seasoning inside the kit Green peppers & red onions Guacamole with tomatoes & red onions Corn salsa Tomato salsa What is your favourite taco/fajita topping? Recipe for the steak: 1. Slice the steak into thin pieces and place into a bowl 2. Add olive oil, lem...

Two Friends, One Fiesta & a Whole Lot of Food & Drinks in #the6ix

We just recently moved downtown and needless to say, the food possibilities are endless! As much as we love living downtown, the one thing we do miss is having a car. Everything downtown is easily accessible but there's nothing like getting into a car and knowing you'll be where you need to go without any delays!  We were fortunate enough to take the Ford Fiesta  around the 6ix for a big foodie adventure! Keep reading to find out where we ventured off to!  Right off the bat, we loved how compact the Fiesta was which basically means its perfect for downtown life. We all know parking can be bit of an issue down here but it was small enough to fit in all the right places. Having said that, don't think that this car doesn't pack a punch when it comes to space inside. We easily fit 4 people in the car and no one complained of leg cramps and heads bumping the ceiling. The first stop we made was to Bombay Street Food Company . I work in the area and it's finally nice to ha...

LAUNCH | Boston Pizza's all-star menu items this summer

Summer in Toronto comes and goes so fast that sometimes we feel like we don't have enough time to enjoy all there is that Toronto has to offer. We're on a mission to try as many food and drinks as we can and a couple of weekends ago, we made a visit to Boston Pizza to try out their new summer menu while watching the Blue Jays Game! Boston Pizza's new summer line up includes an all new "MVB" burger, refreshing Handcrafted Quenchers and a few more tasty dishes! The new menu items are available now and will definitely have something to please for even the pickiest of eaters. The first thing we tried was the MVB (Most Valuable Burger). We're pretty picky about burgers, as there are so many components to make that perfect burger but Boston Pizza was spot on with the MVB. We liked the fact that it's madae with 100% Canadian beef seasoned perfectly with salt and pepper combined with real Canadian cheese all between a soft and sweet brioche bun. If you're cra...

EVENT | Toronto BBQ Week with Samuel Adams is here!

The weather has been amazing lately and that only means one thing - patios and BBQ! Luckily for us, Samuel Adams is teaming up with 15 restaurants across Toronto to bring us  Toronto BBQ Week ! What does that mean exactly? 15 BBQ joints across Toronto is offering an amazing deal - $15 for a dish paired with a pint of Samuel Adams Boston Lager  We're pretty stoked about the restaurants that are participating in Toronto BBQ Week and we got to try out a few places so we can give you the 411 on what they're offering!  Our first stop was  The Harbord Room.   Chef Cory Vitiello's vision behind The Harbord Room  is to focus on using local and seasonal ingredients so it doesn't surprise us that their featured dish would be a Lightly Smoked & Grilled Ocean Trout with Grilled Summer Vegetables, Roasted Cherry tomatoes & Salsa Verde. It was definitely nice to see a different option from the usual pork or beef BBQ.  Photos by Jeffrey Chan courtesy of Sam...

RECIPE| Chorizo, turkey, lentil medley with Muir Glen's Organic Tomatoes

We recently moved downtown and having to think of new things to cook for lunch and dinner is starting to consume a lot of our time. Let's be real, after working 9-5 we're really not up for having a new recipe for each day of the week. We prefer making big batches of food to last us through the week and this Chorizo, turkey and lentil medley is perfect for that!  Soups and stews are great to make ahead of time because they are filling, keep well and even last in the freezer for a few months! We did an adaption of a recipe from Tasty Kitchen    using Muir Glen Organic Fire Roasted Diced Tomatoes.  Muir Glen  tomatoes are field grown and vine ripened under certified organic practices which means they aren't using any synthetic pesticides and chemical fertilizers. Enter their  #OnlyTheBest campaign for a chance to win a Muir Glen prize pack.  We love chorizo but we decided to opt for a more healthier eating option of adding ground turkey and the resu...

A Food Sisterhood's kind of Mother's Day - Wining and Dining

The kitchen's full of gadgets that have never seen the light of day, the closet's full of clothes even our grandmothers won't wear and the number of flower bouquets purchased could be enough to decorate a wedding.  We've finally ran out of mother's day gift ideas after 27 years of brainstorming. Luckily for us, LifeExperiences came along and we were filled with hope again. Let's be real, as great as physical gifts are, they often end up in a box somewhere in the basement until it's time for spring cleaning.  LifeExperiences offer more than just a gift, they offer memories and unique ideas for the loved ones in our lives that last longer than those boxed gifts ever will.  There is a ton of options to choose from like fine dining, spa retreats, sports for the more adventurous and of course wine tours. It's easy to use, you simply go on their website, choose the package that you want and check out! It's also a great option if you're far from home a...
