DINNER IDEAS | Date night with friends

Some nights in our new home call for extravagant dinners that take a few hours to prep and clean while some nights call for easy prep meals that feel like fancy dinners. Those are the nights when we would rather stay in and watch one or two movies on Netfliix. Thankfully Old El Paso (OEP) has us covered for the easy prep nights with all their taco kits.

The Old El Paso kits make it super easy for us to host friends in our new home without making a huge mess that no one really wants to clean after. As much as I love cooking, the clean up is definitely the worst part of prepping a meal. Having your guests eat their meal in an edible bowl - like the new Old El Paso Tortilla Bowls - sounds like a pretty amazing idea to me.

We love sticking to our favourites, the shrimp and beef tacos with the works but we decided to change it up this time and try the Tortilla Bowl.

What we loved about the OEP Tortilla Bowl was how easy it was to use and eat. We all know tacos can get a little messy sometimes - especially with the amount of toppings and stuffing that we put in our tacos. The bowls were a great size for holding everything in and because it's structured it was so much easier to eat.
It's like having the benefits of a soft taco but the easiness of holding a hard taco!

You can always put the tortilla bowls in the oven to heat it up a bit and before you put them in, maybe spread it with a little butter and spices to really kick it up a notch!

We made the corn and guacamole but other than that, OEP pretty much saved the rest of the prep for us! If you're an avid cook in the kitchen, you'll know that less prep and clean up time means you can squeeze in a few extra shows while you're eating! (Not that we're suggesting eating in front of the TV - but when you don't have a dining table, you just have to make do!)

I think the possibilities with the Tortilla Bowl are endless... you can really have it for any meal of the day. If you wanted a breakfast tortilla bowl, you could scramble up a few eggs, add some bell peppers, avocado and bacon and voila - breakfast on the goal.

If you like bringing lunch to work like we do, you can prep all your toppings in a separate container and bring the bowl to work. Just heat it up and you'll have a healthy, filling lunch within a few minutes!

We'd love to hear any ideas of how you guys would use the Old El Paso Tortilla Bowls :)

RECIPE | Alokozay Tea - Cinnamon tea infused panna cotta

Matcha tea has been a long time favourite when making any type of dessert and now more recently, it's expanded to other teas such as Chai or Early Grey. We decided to try making a panna cotta using cinnamon tea from  Alokozay Tea.    If you're looking to buy it in a store, try the international food section in Metro, Bulk Barn, Food Basics, or Adonis. If all else fails, do what we did and order it directly from their website. The website is extremely easy to navigate and you can get free shipping if you spend $39 or more.  Customer service was amazing and replied to my emails within the same day! Click here to buy the tea online.  Panna Cotta is a pretty straight forward dessert to make but it never fails to impress at dinner parties where you can serve them in individual ramekins. Ingredients - 2 Alokozay cinnamon tea bags - 3/4 cup half and half cream -1/2 cup 2% milk - 2 tbsp sugar - 1 tsp gelatin -fruits of your choice  Method: 1. Mix the gelatin with ...

REVIEW | Patois - Get a little taste of everything on the menu with The Whole Shebang!

I'm down to try any restaurant that allows you to order the entire menu and Patois' Jamaican Chinese fusion menu definitely sealed the deal. It's certainly nice to have a restaurant that's open on a Monday and takes reservation in the Dundas St. West neighbourhood. Being able to make reservations makes life a whole lot easier even though the restaurant wasn't packed on a Monday night at 6 pm. Their reservation system even emails you to remind you of your upcoming reservation but we had no problems remembering as Patois has been on our hit list for quite some time now.  There is an assortment of drinks and cocktails to choose from but I went with the classic Ting to bring me back to the feeling of being away on an island somewhere much hotter than Toronto. As advertised, you can order "The Whole Shebang" for $99.99, which includes the entire menu (half orders of the O.G Fried Chicken and Juicy Jerk Chicken)! I would definitely recommend getting The Whole...

REVIEW | Light Cafe

We find Baldwin Village to be a street in Toronto that is ever growing. You'll never know what to expect in terms of businesses that will pop up! Not to mention it's diverse food culture including gelato, ramen, Italian, Filipino food and so much more. It doesn't surprise us at all that Light Cafe decided to take residence on Baldwin.  I have traveled quite extensively through Asia and can say with confidence that Light Cafe looks exactly like a cafe you would find in Taiwan. Not only is it spacious inside, I love the minimalist decor inside which provides a calming atmosphere. I could see myself sitting at the cafe for hours (within reason haha) and getting some work done.  The first thing that we noticed and I'm sure many of you will as well - is the living wall. I don't think I've ever been to a restaurant where there was a living wall but I've always wanted one of my own. With the natural sunlight coming in with the wall, it's the perfect place to f...
