Three birds in one meal with The Original Turducken by Echelon Foods!

Turkey dinners usually come twice a year for us - Thanksgiving and Christmas. It's a torture to have to wait from January to October to eat turkey again and count down the days until this bird makes it on the dinner table once more. This year, Echelon Foods sent us a Turducken to try out. The Turducken is almost like the Lochness monster, everyone talks about it but so few have seen it. Essentially, it's a chicken, duck and a turkey - all in one. Don't be discouraged by the amount of meat as you don't even have to stuff it yourself! Echelon Foods offers the Original Turducken , which is a de-boned duck and chicken breasts wrapped with stuffing in a whole turkey that is also deboned.  You can either choose the Italian-Style Stuffing or Chicken Apple Sausage Stuffing.  Another option is the is the Turducken Premium Roast , which is a de-boned duck and chicken breasts with stuffing in a whole turkey with the wings and drumsticks removed and resembles a football sized ro...

REVIEW | Patois - Get a little taste of everything on the menu with The Whole Shebang!

I'm down to try any restaurant that allows you to order the entire menu and Patois' Jamaican Chinese fusion menu definitely sealed the deal. It's certainly nice to have a restaurant that's open on a Monday and takes reservation in the Dundas St. West neighbourhood. Being able to make reservations makes life a whole lot easier even though the restaurant wasn't packed on a Monday night at 6 pm. Their reservation system even emails you to remind you of your upcoming reservation but we had no problems remembering as Patois has been on our hit list for quite some time now.  There is an assortment of drinks and cocktails to choose from but I went with the classic Ting to bring me back to the feeling of being away on an island somewhere much hotter than Toronto. As advertised, you can order "The Whole Shebang" for $99.99, which includes the entire menu (half orders of the O.G Fried Chicken and Juicy Jerk Chicken)! I would definitely recommend getting The Whole...

REVIEW | Playa Cabana on Dupont offers generous portions of delicious Mexican staples

I've been a fan of Playa Cabana 's Barrio Coreano since its opening ( read review here ) but didn't have a chance to visit their original location on Dupont until September this year. Thank goodness that I did because I can't stop thinking about their jar of jabanero sauce and scrumptious tacos! It was a Friday night and good thing we had reservations because the line was out the door - apparently something to be expected here.  This is surely a good sign and I had high hopes for the Mexican feast I was about to indulge in.  We ordered chips & guac as well as the shrimp bucket to munch on while waiting for the entrees of tacos and house specials. Check out our orders in detail below: Guaca Fresca ($8.00) Fresh made house guacamole served in a lava rock molajete, delicious & spicy! Cubeta De Camaron ($16.00) Cajun-style shrimp tossed in arbol-garlic butter and served in a bucket. Tacos De Pollo Al Carbon ($13.00) Guajilo-chipotle marinated chicken with fresh man...

The 3-day Delicious Food Show, perfect for food lovers in Toronto is back for 2014. Unlike other culinary shows that happen in the city, what I like about DFS is that it's not massive and overcrowded but has a good number of exhibitors and features an impressive list of celebrity chefs, cooking demonstrations and workshops - talk about interactive! I returned this year and left with a full stomach once again. REVIEW | Bywoods - rustic ambiance & modern mediterranean cuisine on St. Clair West

I'm not often in the St. Clair West area but every time I'm there, I wonder why I'm rarely there.  This under-rated neighbourhood is home to many delicious restaurants to be discovered, one of them being the recently visited  Bywoods , a creation by Tony Cappellano of Boom breakfast chain.  This dinner-only restaurant offers a Mediterranean-inspired menu that isn't too traditional. I'm kicking myself for not going to Bywoods during the sunny summer months when I walked passed their patio! I will need to keep it in mind next time we get such weather in Toronto. The interior of the restaurant lives up to its name - it has a cozy yet modern feel, sort of like a renovated cottage in Muskoka. So, what's in the name? The name ' Bywoods ' was inspired by the many streets in the surrounding neighbouhood with the -wood suffix: Humewood, Wellwood, Maplewood, Pinewood, Wychwood & Kenwood .  I didn't know what to expect in terms of the food offerings as I ha...

WORKSHOP | cooking class & family style dinner with Mama Rosa at 7 Numbers Restaurant

I've seen or heard about 7 Numbers Restaurant and its delicious authentic Italian dishes it offers for as long as I can remember.  Recently I was invited to a cooking class & dinner with the woman behind the delicious food - Rosa Marinuzzi - of course I didn't hesitate to attend.  There are two locations in Toronto: one on the Danforth and one on Eglinton ave., the restaurant I visited. In addition to lunch and dinner service at both restaurants, 7 Numbers offers cooking classes with Rosa once or two a month with Rosa.  This experience includes a three-course family-style dinner, unlimited wine and of course the chance to learn some of Rosa's tricks to amazing Italian dishes! Upon entrance to the restaurant, I noticed something unique.  The open kitchen was placed right by the main window, allowing people passing by or restaurant diners to watch the culinary magic happen in front of their eyes.  Of course, this kitchen is where Rosa, myself and other diners...
